Are Alvord ISD Police Officers real police officers?
Yes. Every Alvord ISD Police Officer is a fully licensed Texas Peace Officer, certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and commissioned by the Alvord ISD Police Department. Our officers bring extensive law enforcement training and experience and are committed to protecting the students, staff, and visitors of Alvord ISD.
Is the Alvord ISD Police Department open 24 hours a day?
No. The Alvord ISD Police Department's administrative office is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Our officers routinely work evenings and weekends to provide security at campus activities, athletic events, and other district functions.
After-hours emergencies are handled through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Wise County Sheriff's Office (WCSO). The WCSO provides dispatch and emergency communications services for the Alvord ISD Police Department and forwards district-related incidents to our officers for follow-up and resolution.
Can Alvord ISD Police Officers make arrests off campus?
Yes. Alvord ISD Police Officers are Texas Peace Officers and have statewide law enforcement authority as provided by Texas law. They may make arrests both on and off district property when authorized by law.
What role do Alvord ISD Police Officers play in school discipline?
Police officers are not school disciplinarians.
The role of the Alvord ISD Police Department is to enforce state laws, investigate criminal offenses, and protect the safety of the school community. Student discipline, including consequences for violations of the Student Code of Conduct, remains the responsibility of campus administrators.
Although a criminal investigation may result in school disciplinary action, disciplinary decisions are made independently by school administrators.
What is the jurisdiction of the Alvord ISD Police Department?
Under Texas Education Code §37.081 and Board Policy CKE (LOCAL), the Alvord ISD Police Department has jurisdiction throughout the geographic boundaries of Alvord ISD, as well as on property owned, leased, rented, or otherwise controlled by the District.
Can an Alvord ISD Police Officer issue a traffic citation?
Yes. Alvord ISD Police Officers are authorized to enforce Texas traffic laws and may issue citations when appropriate. Officers actively monitor traffic safety, particularly in designated school zones, both on and adjacent to school property.
Where do I go if I receive a traffic citation from an Alvord ISD Police Officer?
Traffic citations issued by Alvord ISD Police Officers are handled through the appropriate Justice of the Peace Court or Municipal Court in Wise County, depending on where the violation occurred.
What happens if I fail to appear in court or pay my citation?
Failure to appear in court or satisfy the requirements of your citation may result in the court issuing a warrant for your arrest. Once issued, the warrant may be executed by any Texas Peace Officer.
